Clean & Green

Giannini's Auto Body from the very beginning has tried to do its part in keeping our impact on the environment as minimal as possible. Staying on top of new and innovative technologies is very important in the battle to keep our employee's and our neighbors healthy.

Switching to "Waterboarne" paint was a no brainer for us. We were the first shop in San Francisco to fully convert to the water based system, nearly two years before its requirement by law. With that compliance date looming, we are not only ready, but fully trained and experienced in its use. We are one of only a handfull of shops that is acually certified "Clean & Green" by the city of San Francisco. We have also implemented other technics, such as vacumn sanders, low energy compressors, and recycled booth filters. These technics has earned us praise from the Department of Public Health and has won us a nomination for 2009's "Clean & Green" Award.

Envirobase High Performance waterborne basecoat

The third generation of waterborne technology PPG introduced in 1999, this basecoat offers collision centers premium quality in an easy-to-use system.

Air Dry Waterborne Adhesion Promoter

This promoter - a finalist in the 2007 Automotive News PACE Awards program - does not require baking prior to topcoat application and offers zero hazardous air pollutants, ultra-low VOCs and superior physical properties. It also provides better topcoat transfer efficiency, energy savings, a reduced manufacturing footprint and a wider operating window.

B1:B2 Compact Paint Process

This innovative process eliminates the need for primer surfacer application and primer bake with two enhanced basecoat layers that help reduce energy consumption, increase process efficiency and reduce the manufacturing footprint of paint shops.

Minimize Dust From Sanding Operations

• Use a vacuum sander to collect dust during sanding operations. Vacuum sanders reduce exposure to toxic air pollutants and particle pollution; they also minimize dust settling onto freshly painted surfaces. For example, one Minnesota shop that installed a vacuum sander reduced the frequency of air filter changes and decreased the amount of sandpaper used.

• Leave work clothes and shoes at the shop. Have clothes cleaned by a professional laundering service.

By switching from conventional to high volume low-pressure spray guns, one body shop reduced its paint usage by 30% per car.
